What the numbers mean
This calculator uses a conditional probability model: each criterion you apply reduces the pool by the proportion of the population that doesn't meet it. The math compounds — three criteria that each cut the pool by 50% leave you with 12.5%, not 50%.
The absolute count matters too. Even 0.5% of US women aged 18–44 is roughly 275,000 people. The percentage can look alarming while the raw number remains entirely realistic for dating.

The idea
What is the male standards test?
The male standards test is the men's edition of the standards test: you enter the criteria you'd want in an ideal partner, and the calculator tells you what percentage of American women actually meet all of them at once — plus the raw headcount behind that percentage. It runs on the same engine as the main calculator: real data from the US Census Bureau, CDC, and Pew Research, applied with conditional probability math. Nothing is estimated from vibes.
We built this version because men's dating standards get argued about constantly and measured almost never. Everyone has an opinion about what men want; almost nobody has run the numbers on what those wants do to the actual population. This page does exactly that: set your filters and watch the pool shrink in real time.
The point isn't to judge your standards — it's to price them. High standards aren't wrong, and relaxed ones aren't right. The male standards test shows you what each criterion costs in population terms, so you can decide what's worth requiring. How it works
The math, briefly
The engine multiplies conditional probabilities: each criterion keeps only the share of the pool that passes it, and the survivors of one filter face the next. Probabilities are applied conditionally — weighted by the race and age composition of the pool you selected — so the numbers hold up better than naive back-of-the-envelope math.
Here's a real sequence from the data. Among White women aged 25–34: about 42% have no children, 42% have never been married, and 41.5% hold a bachelor's degree. Stack just those three — 42% × 42% × 41.5% — and about 7.3% of that group remains, before politics, body weight, or any other filter. And since women aged 25–34 are 19.6% of the adult female population, those three criteria plus the age band leave roughly 1.4% of all American women.

Data highlights
What the data says about the dating pool
Before you panic at a small percentage, it helps to know what the American female population actually looks like. A few real numbers from the datasets behind the male standards test:
- About 28.5 million American women are aged 22–35 — roughly 27% of adult women. A decade-wide age band is the cheapest filter in the model.
- Around 55 million women are aged 18–44. Even a brutal 1% result still means over half a million real people.
- Marital status swings hard by age and race. Among women aged 25–34, 66% of Black women have never been married, versus 52% of Hispanic, 42% of White, and 37.5% of Asian women.
- About 4% of women aged 25–34 report zero lifetime sexual partners(CDC NSFG) — one in 25, far from impossible but the single most restrictive filter in the model.
- Education varies sharply by race. Roughly 60% of Asian women hold a bachelor's degree, compared to 41.5% of White, 25.8% of Black, and 22% of Hispanic women.
- So does healthy body weight. About 54.5% of Asian women have a BMI under 25, versus 36% of White and 20.5% of Black women — which is exactly why the calculator weights every factor by your pool's racial composition.

What your result means
The calculator sorts every result into four tiers: 10% or more means your standards are quite reasonable and they're out there. 1–10% means you're selective, but this is realistic for a motivated search. 0.1–1%is a needle in a haystack — possible, but the math is tough. Under 0.1%means fewer than 1 in 1,000 people qualify, and some criteria may be worth reconsidering.
Two rules of thumb when you read your male standards test result. First, the absolute count matters more than the percentage: 0.5% of US women aged 18–44 is roughly 275,000 people, a mid-sized city's worth. Second, read the breakdown, not just the total — the calculator shows what each filter costs you, and if one criterion is doing most of the damage, that's the one to think about. Are men's standards too high?
This calculator doesn't answer that — it just shows the math. If you require multiple strict criteria simultaneously, the pool shrinks fast because probabilities multiply. Whether that's "too high" is a value judgment, not a data question.
Is this calculator only for men looking for women?
The calculator defaults to women, but the gender toggle at the top switches to men. The main standards test defaults to female targets if you want to start from there instead.
How accurate is the male standards test?
