What is a dating standards calculator?

A dating standards calculator takes your ideal partner criteria — age, background, lifestyle, education — and estimates what percentage of the US adult population actually meets all of them at once, using real government and research datasets.

How accurate is this calculator?

The underlying data (US Census ACS 2022, CDC NHANES 2017–2020, Pew Research 2024) is from reputable primary sources, but the model simplifies reality: it treats factors as conditionally independent once race and age are controlled for, and doesn't capture every relevant variable (height, income, personality). Treat the output as an order-of-magnitude estimate, not a precise forecast.

Why do my odds drop so fast when I add filters?

Because probabilities multiply. Each filter removes the fraction of the population that doesn't pass it — and since no two filters select exactly the same people, the overlap shrinks fast. Three filters that each cut the pool to 30% leave you with 2.7%, not 30%.

What are the odds of finding my ideal partner?

It depends entirely on your criteria. Even 0.5% of US women aged 18–44 is roughly 310,000 people — entirely realistic for dating. The calculator shows both the percentage and the absolute count so you can see both dimensions.

Which filter has the biggest impact on the result?

Requiring zero prior sexual partners. Depending on the age group, only 1–15% of the population reports zero lifetime partners (CDC NSFG). This single criterion can reduce your pool by over 95%. Political leaning and BMI are next most impactful.

Does this work for women looking for men too?

Yes. Toggle to "Man" at the top of the calculator to filter the male US adult population instead. The same nine factors are available for both target genders.

Is there a version specifically for men's standards?

Yes — the Male Standards Calculator at /male-standards-test/ is optimized for searching the female population from a man's perspective. It uses the same model with female demographic data.

How does race conditioning work in the model?

When you select multiple racial groups, the calculator weights each conditional factor (BMI, politics, education, etc.) by the relative population size of each selected group. So selecting "White" and "Asian" produces a BMI probability that is a population-weighted average of White BMI rates and Asian BMI rates, not a simple mean.

Why does the calculator use race as a filter?

Several factors in the model — BMI, political affiliation, educational attainment, marital status — differ significantly across racial groups in US government data. Using racial composition allows the conditional probabilities to be more accurate. Race as a dating preference is also a real and legally protected personal choice.

Where does the data come from?

US Census Bureau ACS 2022 (age, race, education, marital status), CDC NHANES 2017–2020 (BMI by race and sex), Pew Research Center 2024 (political affiliation by race), and CDC NSFG 2017–2019 (sexual partner history). Full details are on the methodology page.

Is this tool for entertainment or serious research?
